Description
A Journal or Historical Account of the Life, Travels, Sufferings, Christian Experiences and Labour of Love, in the Work of the Ministry, of that Ancient, Eminent, and Faithful Servant of Jesus Christ, George Fox. The Third Edition, Corrected. London: Printed by W. Richardson and S. Clark 1765 Folio, lix, 679, [7], [6], [10], [4] pages, bound in period full leather with raised bands and gilt lettering to spine. Some signs of rubbing and wear, hinges cracked but holding, occasional light scattered foxing, else in good + condition. This book bears inscriptions from its original owner, Dennis Whelen (1718–1782), an early settler of Chester County, Pennsylvania, who played a foundational role in the development of the region during the colonial period. Whelen's legacy continued through his son, Dennis Whelen Jr. (1761–1819), a prominent figure in Chester County during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born in Uwchlan Township, Dennis Jr. served as a Federalist politician, representing Chester County in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1792 to 1794 and in the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1794 to 1802. His contributions extended beyond politics; in 1809, he founded the Chester and Delaware Federalist newspaper, later renamed the Village Record. This publication became a vital platform for news and commentary in the region, cementing Whelen's influence in shaping public discourse. Dennis Whelen Jr. was married to Mary Downing, likely a member of the influential Downing family, further solidifying the Whelen family's prominence in Chester County's social and political spheres. The book also features an inscription by Edward Whelen, the great-grandson of Dennis Whelen Sr., connecting it to multiple generations of this historically significant family. These inscriptions underscore the book's importance as a tangible link to Chester County's early settlers and political history. The parcel was packaged and wrapped with significant care, I didn’t recognize it was my package at first due to its size…I would’ve gladly paid shipping fees for this kind of extensive packaging. Nothing was damaged during transit and it arrived on time, excellent work! The item itself is also exactly as described by the seller, no more no less. I am well satisfied with this purchase. Great seller!! A+++

Fantastic seller. Contacted me almost immediately with shipping details and an explanation about a potential delay due to the Juneteeth holiday. Book was wrapped in a ridiculous amount of bubble wrap so it would arrive safely. So awesome to have a book from the early 1800s on free trade. This was absolutely a great value and would buy from again! I have zero complaints.
