Description

~~Printed in New York over 225 Years Ago!~~ ~American Quaker Minister ~ Journal of the Life, Travels and Gospel Labours of that Faithful Servant and Minister of Christ, Job Scott By Job Scott New York: Printed and Sold by Isaac Collins, ~ (1797) ~ ************************************************* 12mo. [xiv], 360 pages. Hardcover bound in original full brown leather. The binding measures about 7 inches tall by 4 1.2 inches wide. Now housed in modern removable clear mylar jackets. The binding shows rubbing and wear, and the hinges are starting to crack. There are a couple of chips in the leather (or insect damage) on the front cover. Inner hinges secure. There is an attractive early inscription on the front flyleaf, "Margaret Wilson / presented by her Father / Richard Mitchell". One of the rear flyleaves also has a page of handwritten genealogical information on the Wilson family from 1797 to 1802. The text block is sound. There is a gathering in the center of the text block (pages 183-190) which is slightly sprung. The text is a little toned and has occasional foxing. Nice 18th century American Quaker book in the original binding. Job Scott (1751-1793) was an American Quaker minister originally from Rhode Island. During the American Revolution he was an active war tax resister, and he moved to Springfield Massachusetts during the Revolutionary War. He travelled from Vermont to Georgia and visited Quaker communities in Maryland and North Carolina in 1789-1790. He died of Smallpox while visiting Ireland in 1793. ***************************************** We Always Accept Returns if the Item Does Not Match the Description. This was a perfect transaction! I got a great price on a beautiful, near-mint book. It's every bit as good as described and pictured. Shipping was very fast, and the book was packed in bubble wrap and a padded manila mailer. Personally I like to have a box around my book, but all Is well and I'm VERY HAPPY with my purchase. This seller really appreciates his buyers! There was a printed invoice, and also a handwritten one with a thank you note. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! A++++++++++ :) :)
