You are bidding on a rare set of antique hardcover books titled A Journal of Travels In England, Holland, and Scotland, And of Two Passages Over The Atlantic, In The Years 1805 and 1806. By Benjamin Silliman, of Yale College. This is just the Second Edition. Printed in Boston by T. B. Wait and Co., for Howe and Deforest, and Increase Cook and Co., New Haven, 1812. The set is complete in two volumes and you are bidding on both volumes. Volume II has the extremely scarce fold-outs of Stonehenge! Benjamin Silliman (8 August 1779 – 24 November 1864) was an American chemist, one of the first American professors of science (at Yale University), and the first to distill petroleum. The two volumes are bound in full leather. They have titling on red morocco labels on the spines. The leather binding has corner and edge wear with scuffing to leather. Covers are firmly attached. The pages are tightly bound with some scattered light foxing. The top part of the blank front endpage in Volume I has been torn out. Pencilled name on inside of front cover of Volume II.
