Description

ULTRA RARE, NO COPIES ONLINE FOR SALE, NOT EVEN REPRINTS. There are a few print copies found in libraries throughout the world (Worldcat). According to this article: "Homoeopathic Journals of the United States" by Jay Yasgur, Pharmacy in History, Vol. 40, No. 1 (1998), pp. 39-54 (16 pages): "1860 (Feb.) - The United States Journal of Homoeopathy (Preston/Marcy) ran for 2 years 8 months before merging with the North American Journal of Homoeopathy in 1863." THIS LISTING IS FOR THE UNITED STATES JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHRY FOR 1860 AND 1861. According to the above quote, there were 8 additional monthly of this journal before it merged. The two annual volumes were published as 3/4 leather bound books. They are both in VERY GOOD CONDITION, with expected wear to the boards edges, corners and spine. Spine titling is clear, boards are solidly bound to the spine, moderate to heavy corner and edge wear, clean marble boards. There is light foxing in a handful of beginning and ending pages in both volumes. There are a few previous owner markings in the front endpapers, none thereafter. There were very few illustrations - I found a few in my flip through of both volumes. Volume 1 did not begin with a traditional title or copyright page, but rather an "Introduction" dated February 1860 on the first page of text in this volume. This Introduction went 8 pages, then there was an article on, "On the Homoeopathic Law". This was advertised as a quarterly journal in The Introduction. I saw title pages for the Feb, May, August, and November of 1860. There was no Table of Contents. The pagination was continuous to 818, ending with an Index, and then 2 pages of ads. Before this Index, there was a separately paginated section titled, "Fragmentary Provings of Gelseminum Sempervirens" of 36 pages followed by 4 pages of ads. Volume 2 begins with a listing of editors but then it does have a traditional title page with a copyright statement. This is followed by an alphabetized Index of Subjects, and finally beginning with the February of 1861 title page. Again, continuously paginated to page 695. VERY INTERESTING AND RARE!! SLL
