Beautiful small embossed red leather photo album with detailed brass straps and clasps. Includes 7 photographs from various eras, including 2 tintypes, 4 carte de visits, and 1 vintage photograph from around the 1920s or 1930s. Straps are on 2/3rds of both the back and the front and have an etched pattern. Brown and white lattice pattern endpapers. Title page says “Album of Photographs” in blue and gold. Index of Portraits list is blank, and no other information is written in the album itself. Gold painted ends to the text block. Fifteen cardboard pages with an open arched window in the middle with gold scrollwork around it. Holds 30 photographs, the opening measuring about 3-3/8” H x 2-1/4” W. Found in Virginia. Most likely American from the 1860s-1870s, 1880s-1890s, and 1920s. Photos include (in the order of this list): 1. A vintage group photograph of two women and a man: marked on the back “Maud, Ollie, Bea.” 2. A small oval tintype of a woman (NOT magnetic), set in an embossed card 3. A CDV of an older man with a beard, seated next to drapes 4. A small oval tintype of a boy (magnetic), set in an embossed card - cheeks are tinted pink 5. A CDV of a woman standing next to a chair 6. A CDV of a of a woman sitting with her arm on a table 7. A CDV of a man in a bow tie, bust length The photo album measures 6-5/8 x 5-1/2 x 1-3/8 inches. In good condition. Clasps open and lock shut smoothly. One clasp is a different design than the other (although it’s the right shape and color), and the pin on the matching clasp is sticking out a little. Some wear on the exterior around all edges. Covers and binding are intact. I have not removed the photos from their pages (pages 1, 4,5, and 6 out of 15) and am not sure if they are glued into place or loose. The slots to remove the photos are on the bottom of pages. Some wear and small stains on pages and endpapers, including two empty pages with splotches of residue in the gutters. Windows are intact with a couple 1/8” or less tears. The tintype of the woman has a light vertical scratch down her face. See images for details.
