Description
Great personal lot consisting of a photo album and address book with hand stamped and painted leather covers. With contents dated July 9, 1945 these albums record the Scouting trip of 17 boys to Bear Island located on Temegami lake Onterio, Canada. The group was selected from company sponsored units throughout the country by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company located in Akron, Ohio. The photo album contains 42 photographs (mosty of activities on the lake) and two newspaper clippings. One photo depicts a group photo of more than 50 Air and Sea Scouts dated 1946. In another photo a Sea Scout can be seen among the group of boys on this trip. The address book contains a few messages and well wishes along with signatures and addresses collected by the boy who owned these two keepsake Items. The photo album measures 9"L x 6.25"W. The address book measures 5.25"L x 4"W. At the time of this trip WWII had not formally come to an end. Less than one month later President Truman ordered the dropping of two Atomic bombs on Japan. Many of these boys were likely considering entry into the military to support the war effort beyond the contributions Scouts in the United States were already making through civic programs. Please refer to photos provided to further determine condition. Will ship USPS. Thanks for looking.
