A *heavy* VG+ album. A hefty class photo album of Brown University students and faculty, many of whom have been identified in pencil below their image by a prior owner. The most notable graduate that year was Charles Evans Hughes, who would later become Governor of New York, U.S. Secretary of State, and the 11th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. William Llewellyn Phillips, the former owner of the album, was graduated with a BA in 1881, after which he became a clerk at the Providence Steam and Gas Pipe Company, and a purchasing agent at General Fire Extinguisher Company, also in Providence. Phillips was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.
