Bound in hunter green leather, the book has decorative paper end leaves, satin book marker, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in FINE condition. Collector's letter is included. Louis Stanton Auchincloss, who lived from 1917--2010, was an American lawyer, novelist, historian, and essayist. He is best know as a prolific novelist who parlayed his experiences and psychology of American polite society and old money. The diary of the title refers to a journal kept by ROBERT SERVICE, who in his early thirties is about to be made partner in a prestigious New York law firm. For Service, getting to the top is all; and if he ever had a conscience, it has been curried under a mountain of raw ambition.
