Leather. 2 vols., 1302p total. A set of two large, folio-size hardcover books bound in golden-brown leather with gilt lettering. The spines and boards are heavily scuffed. Tipped-in plate of General Joffre is missing. First few leaves of volume 2 are coming loose. Occasional light fingerprint smudges, but otherwise, text and plates are clean. Binding is still holding, but due to the weight of these heavy volumes, the binding could easily crack if the books are not handled gently. Item #183775 A magnificent photographic history of World War I, filled with images which were originally published in the French weekly newspaper L'ILLUSTRATION. Also contains color paintings and tipped-in plates of French and British commanders. Complete in two volumes, with all text in French. Both volumes measure approx. 15.75" x 12.5"

Very well packaged. Better than some other sellers that just ship books in a Manila padded envelope. This seller had wrapped it in bubble wrap then placed in a box full of packed paper. Because of this extra careful attention the 139 year old book made it safe to its new forever home. The book arrived on time. As described. Great value for a book this old. The stain on front cover is exactly as described. I would prefer it to not have the stain but it definitely adds character.
