A nurse's travel album to different places in the western United States including California, Washington, Utah, Kansas, Arizona, Maryland, and Arkansas in the early 1910s. The woman, Mary Wolfe, fills the album with the various locations she and her friends traveled to including Phoenix, Arizona; Eureka, Arkansas; Baltimore, Maryland; Salt Lake City, Utah; Avalon Bay, San Pedro, and Long Beach, California; and Yellow Stone Park in Wyoming. Much of the photos are of Wolfe with her friends, posed wearing the latest styles of dress for the time period, with decorative hats and dresses that are less slimming and restrictive. Many of the California and Salt Lake City photos feature the group on the beaches enjoying the sun or fishing, in which Wolfe is seen holding a large fish, half the size of her body. In a later fishing photo, she captions the picture stating that she caught the large fish herself. Of the Yellowstone National Park photos, The Old Faithful Geyser, Keepler Cascades, Rock Lake, and Hayden Valley are pictured. Mary Wolfe was a practicing nurse and while visiting Baltimore, there are a couple photographs of John Hopkins Hospital. She also includes portrait shots of the other nurses she worked with and in one photograph, she is seen with three other nurses with upkept hair during a sleepover. Other photographs show her in an operating room with other staff around a patient on a stretcher. Charmingly, captioned under a group photograph, Wolfe writes," For beauty we are not stars; there are others more handsome by far; but our face we do not mind it. Because we are behind it."
